Mirco Gonnelli - Technology for disable people remote control devices and antonomous wheelchair

This Master thesis project was elaborated in collaboration with the College of Engineering and Architecture of Fribourg, EIA-FR, and the University of Florence. It was developed at the laboratory of the Multimedia Information Systems Group (MISG) for Degonda, a Swiss company manufacturing wheelchairs. The idea behind the project is to create the concept of "Smart WheelChair". The aim is to provide the user of the wheelchair with the comfort and the performance which a normal wheelchair cannot satisfy. We want to give the user an opportunity to interact with the environment via an autonomous drive managed from a smart phone.

David Currat - Automated video surveillance system of parking slots

This project uses a video surveillance platform developed by the company CISCO. Its objective is to implement a demonstrator recovering video streams on this platform and executing surveillance of a parking place. Chosen monitoring environment for the demonstrator is at an outdoor parking lot.

Joël Dumoulin - GERBIL: Gesture Recognition using a Brain Lightweight Headset

Project GERBIL constitutes a part of the doctoral thesis "MAGI", elaborated by Francesco Carrino. "MAGI" principally aims to integrate physiological sensors in the system of gesture-recognition in order to enrich our capacity to control objects.

Sébastien Gumy - Smart surveillance of a door

In the world of video-surveillance big quantities of video streams are recorded and it is necessary that an operator controls them permanently to know what is happening. In order to archive the streams, the operator has to be able to find easily the relevant sequences, without having to go through all the streams. To execute these tasks, it is useful to have a tool enabling annotation of video streams, as well as launching an alarm when something important happens. When an event occurs, operator has to watch only the sequences during which the alarm was triggered. This Master thesis focuses on developping such a tool.

Julien Jeanneret - Smart Building

This Master thesis project contributes to the project Smart Building, which is composed of two sub-projects, Smart View and Smart Control. In industrial world no product takes into account previsions for the improvement of a regulation strategy and therefore, the Smart Building project started from zero. This Master thesis created an architectural concept of a sub-project Smart Control. It also made it possible to identify the principal needs of Smart Control. The Master project uses a test building, where the Smart Building system will be deployed in order to be able to test and validate the project.

Alexandre Péclat - 3D Pointing gesture recognition system

This Master thesis project is set in the context of Natural User Interfaces. It presents a gesture recognition system, which allows the user to interact with the objects in his/her environment by pointing at them. This project also participated on the development of ARAMIS framework.

Raynald Seydoux - Development and enhancement of the NSISka-based NetServ signaling daemon

This thesis focuses on the signalling part of NetServ architecture. Signalling is used to command a node to install/remove a module and to probe the on-path nodes about the status of their modules previously installed.

2009

Charles Keat - AMI: Basic hand gesture recognition

This project focuses on the development of a gesture recognizer for hand 3D movements. It is realized in collaboration with the EIA-FR (College for Engineering and Architecture Fribourg) and the Polytech Nantes.

Flavie Lancereau - Widge: Cross-protocol wireless controller

This project focuses on the development of a smart controller allowing applications to exchange information over heterogeneous wireless networks (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and ZigBee). It is realized in collaboration with the EIA-FR (College for Engineering and Architecture Fribourg) and the Polytech Nantes.

Rajesh Gironelli - Smart services for IMS network

This project focuses on the development of smart services for IMS (Internet Multimedia Subsystem) -based applications. It is realized in collaboration with the EIA-FR (College for Engineering and Architecture Fribourg) and the University of Perugia.

2008

David Godel - VirtuaMea - Semantic Web-based Annotation and Virtual Query System

This project focuses on semantic video fragmentation and annotation. Moreover it investigates the design of a virtual query system. It is realized in collaboration with the EIA-FR (College for Engineering and Architecture Fribourg) and the University of Fribourg.

Jean Revertera - Media Analysis for Synchronization of Multimedia Conferences

This project focuses on the study of slide change detection in order to improve synchronization of different media in a conference (slides, video recording, etc.). It is realized in collaboration with the EIA-FR (College for Engineering and Architecture Fribourg) and the University of Fribourg.

Ivan Rossi - Memodules Smart Home project

This project focuses on designing and developing a wireless sensors network based on BTnode. It is realized in collaboration with the EIA-FR (College for Engineering and Architecture Fribourg) and the University of Perugia.

2007

Matthias Muller - Multimodal Dialog System

This project focuses on the investigation of the state-of-the-art of multimodal dialogue systems and on the development of a demonstrator of a multimodal dialogue system based on EMMA specification implemented using NET technology (pdf). It is realized in collaboration with the EIA-FR (College for Engineering and Architecture Fribourg) and the University of Fribourg.

Oliver Tjulin - Generic API for Managing Database Queries

This project focuses on the investigation of different possible approaches and on existing technologies which could help to develop a generic API to access different kind of databases. The objective is to decouple the user from a specific query language and to provide him one language or intuitive user interface. It is realized in collaboration with the EIA-FR (College for Engineering and Architecture Fribourg) and the University of Fribourg.

2006

David Baechler - MemoML project

This project focuses on designing and implementing a system for creating and managing tangible shortcuts to multimedia information. A formal language, called MemoML (Memodules Markup Language), supported by a dedicated engine (MemoEngine) for flexibly and easily describe Memodules objects and their usage scenarios, has been developed. It is realized in collaboration with the EIA-FR (College for Engineering and Architecture Fribourg) and the University of Fribourg.
