Project title

ILFORD

Overview of the project and expected outcomes

  • Description: ILFORD is a company active in the sector of manufacturing of photographic paper. The fabrication process consists in pouring levels of a solution on a paper received from a different manufacturer. Current computer system on the production machine dates back to the 1980s-1990s. The entire management of the production system is administered by a HP1000 computer, which contains a database and a number of programs. Due to the technological evolution and the ageing of the computer, this structure is not adapted to current needs. It was therefore decided to introduce new computer architecture. The College of Engineering and Architecture of Fribourg (EIA-FR) was appointed to analyse the current situtation and suggest practical solutions. The development and implementation of the new architecture were also confined to EIA-FR, in a close collaboration with the engineering department of ILFORD.
